‘Mixing in Math’ Activities Featured In New NSDL/SMILE Pathway App; Webinars Scheduled for Fall 2011

CAMBRIDGE, MA–In the latest Mixing in Math (MiM) news, the National Science Digital Library’s SMILE (Science and Math Informal Learning Educators) pathwayhas released a free mobile app containing the 2,000+ STEM activities that comprise the SMILE Pathway* collection—including about 130 MiM activities in English and Spanish. The HowToSmile.Org app is now available in the iTunes store.

In addition, MiM will be hosting two free, open-to-the-public interactive webinars in November 2011. Participants will engage in MiM activities and hear how informal educators are using MiM activities to infuse math into settings as varied as PK-6 circle times, story times, arts and crafts projects, and subjects from science to social studies.

Mixing in Math(MiM) is a set of over 200 games, activities, and resources in English and Spanish for grades PK-6 that ‘mix’ math into out-of-school time. With funding from the National Science Foundation, MiM collaborated with librarians and after-school educators across the country to develop and research impact of these activities. * SMILE is a national partnership among science and technology centers, museums, community-based organizations, and out-of-school educators dedicated to making science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) exciting and engaging for all learners.
