Author's StatementThis is just a shot from … a motorcade rally … [against] the Thirty Meter Telescope in Hawaii … [It’s a] huge telescope they [non-Native scientists] want to build on … a really sacred space … And they pollute the water, and they’re also denying that there’s an aquifer up there … They haven’t followed any of their policies or regulations. They’re creating a whole bunch of contamination that’s just illegal on their own terms … They’re just being … really bad stewards. Being Native in STEM makes it inherently political because the way that science continually … can enact violence against our land and … our people and culture … [As] a Native person in STEM, it’s really important for me to be … deconstructing that.
