Author's StatementThe way decision-making is done for Navajoland is through chapter houses, and those are community hubs where … all the decisions are made, and money gets channeled, and they have their own government and bureaucracy and levels. … I don’t live in this community, but I’m bringing something [weather stations] I think is worthwhile … I’m also a member of the tribe, and I was telling them my clan and where I grew up. And so I made a connection. “Why are you doing it?” – that was the question I got a lot. … So, that gave me an opportunity to talk [about] who I am and talk [about] where I lived, and my connection to the culture is not just science. It’s a blend of both. You know, I really want to give back. And over time, I went there many times. And … they accepted it. Now it’s more of the [data] providing the value to them.
