Author's StatementMy mom got me this blanket when I was in high school, and one of the first things that I did was wash the blanket. It’s a fully wool blanket; so, it shrunk … It’s a lesson in learning how to take care of stuff … [The blanket] offers me protection and reminds me that I’m a carer of nice things. That means that I could be the carer of my community and bring nice things to other people. That’s the main reason why I wanted to become a scientist … I aim to be a part of the community, to give back. Maybe my position in the community is I’m someone who is the keeper of nice things, and I make sure that we have nice things for future generations with earth science.
