Author's Note

I think this is an interesting photo because it’s completely about perspective. It’s knowing exactly where and when to look in that canyon that you can get these different shapes. And being with the right people at the right time, having that perspective, I think, is what was so important about being, bringing Indigenous identity to STEM. I think a lot of it has to do with perspective, understanding how much of the science that we do is place-based. I think for, what I work on, specifically around sustainable design, it’s knowing that I can’t just write a prescribed formula, “This is how we have to solve problems,” or, “This design will work everywhere,” ‘cause that’s not the case.
