Author's Note

Watching the teepees at the powwow was just that reminder of everything that my family sacrificed just to survive. They didn’t pass down [the knowledge]. I don’t know how to [build a teepee]. I can’t. I don’t know how to make it … If somebody put a kit with all of the materials I needed in front of me, I would not be able to make it, because I don’t know how. Nobody, nobody showed us … That’s something we lost. And so, seeing some of these things is kind of the reminder of everything that was sacrificed, and that’s sad. We have some stuff, but nothing is explicit because it couldn’t be. So, it was hidden, [and] it might as well be lost, since we don’t know how to unlock it.
