Author's StatementI had all my pinned butterflies because I was told you have to. If you’re an entomologist … you have to collect insects and pin them. So, we preserved records. And what I found out recently is that you don’t have to do that. You can take photos and you can upload them to sites like iNaturalist or Odonata Central, and where they have huge databases, and they collect all the information, and you don’t have to kill the insect. You can just take a nice picture.
