Project 1. Think Like a Designer   3D Printer Illustration

Students 

  • are introduced to the MPACT design/making model and design a bookmark to be 3D printed. 
  • learn about measurement. 
  • Figure out why a design will not 3D print well (decomposition in CT). 
Project 2. Make a Soma Cube Puzzle with a Box   Illustration of a Square Pyramid

Students will: 

  • use the design/making model to make a 3D printed Soma Cube puzzle with Tinkercad.  
  • learn about volume and nets.  
  • make parts of a mobile, then put them together (decomposition in CT). 
  • Imagine shapes with pieces missing and how that affects volume (Spatial Reasoning). 
Project 3. Make a Mobile   Drawing of a mobile

Students will: 

  • use the design/making model to make a mobile for another class.  
  • learn about surface area and geometric nets. 
  • debug an algorithm (CT). 
  • imagine 3D shapes folded from 2D shapes (spatial reasoning).
