Eisenhower Regional Alliance for Mathematics and Science Education

Located at TERC from 1995-2005, the Regional Alliance for Mathematics and Science Education was the Northeast and Islands Eisenhower Regional Consortium serving Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Vermont. Funded by the U.S. Department of Education, the Regional Alliance was part of a national network comprising ten Eisenhower Regional Consortia and the Eisenhower National Clearinghouse.

The mission of the Regional Alliance was to support K-12 mathematics and science improvement efforts by disseminating information about high quality mathematics and science materials and providing technical assistance and professional development for teachers, administrators, and state education officials focused on improving mathematics and science teaching and learning.

Through its Alliance Schools Network, the Regional Alliance provided intensive technical assistance and professional development to a group of the region's high-need, underserved schools that were committed to increasing student achievement. The focus of the Network was on developing the capacity of school-based leadership to guide local efforts to improve the teaching and learning of mathematics and/or science.

At the state and regional level, the Regional Alliance established targeted partnerships with mathematics or science organizations or state departments of education to provide customized teacher and/or administrative professional development and leadership development addressing key state priorities.

The Regional Alliance also engaged in an ongoing Using Data Initiative across the region to increase mathematics and science reform leaders' knowledge and use of data-driven planning. The approach is now detailed in Using Data/Getting Results, published by Christopher-Gordon Publishers.
